The “Whale Tail” coaster is making a big splash in our shop!
These coasters are hand-made right here in Michigan with laser-cut wood and 3D printed bases. Each coaster is glued, stained – and once dry – top-coated to ensure durability!

Every coaster we make goes through the same 12 steps so we can ensure consistency and quality! Here’s an outline of what we do:
1. We pick out a beautiful piece of 1/8” Poplar-Topped wood to be transformed
2. The piece is aligned in our laser cutter and tuned-in
3. The laser cutter first engraves the design then cuts out the whole shape
4. We remove the wood from the laser cutter and carefully inspect every detail to make sure the whole design is visible
5. The up-side of the coaster is sanded with multiple grits of paper to get that oh-so-smooth texture
6. Next, sealant is applied to the wood to give it protection from moisture – we’ll leave this to dry for 4+ hours
7. While the sealant sets, we grab a roll of filament and turn to our lovely little machines where the plastic coaster base is 3D printed
8. Once the base is complete, we check all edges and walls to make sure that it is sturdy and smooth
9. By now the top of our coaster is dry – so it’s time to glue it to our coaster base
10. After the glue is applied, the two pieces are clamped together and left for over an hour
11. Once the waiting is over, we complete a final inspection of the product to ensure no rough edges or smudgy spots – making sure everything meets or exceeds our standards
12. The finished coaster is stored in a controlled zone awaiting shipment

Our coasters require 12 hands-on steps to ensure durability and attractiveness. It may seem like a lot, but we’re glad to have to opportunity to ensure our products receive the attention to detail and love in creation they deserve!
